Support BurbridgeBuilds
A sincere appeal from a wiki that technically does not need money.
BurbridgeBuilds is funded entirely by the conviction that it should exist. We do not need donations. We will not use donations if you make them. But if you feel you must contribute something, we've prepared tiers below.
Why Donate?
BurbridgeBuilds is a labor of love, craft, and mild spite. It is hosted on infrastructure that costs approximately $0.00/month, maintained by software that doesn't require sleep, and populated by articles that don't need to be written because they're already correct.
In short: your money will do nothing here. It will sit. Unused. Accruing interest if we're being honest. But perhaps you, the reader, need to donate. Perhaps you have been moved by what you've read. Perhaps you simply have extra money and are tired of it. We are prepared to accept your burden.
Tiers of Support
For those who appreciate the work but are financially cautious. Or philosophically cautious. Or both.
- Our sincere gratitude, expressed silently
- Nothing else
- Really, nothing
A middle-ground tier, honoring one of software's most consistent antagonists.
- Everything from Tier 1 (which is nothing)
- A commemorative ASCII art certificate (sent if you ask)
- Peace of mind about merge conflicts you have yet to experience
A donation worthy of a successful deploy. Friday or otherwise.
- Everything from previous tiers
- Your name mentioned in a Slack channel you will never see
- A vague sense of accomplishment, lasting approximately 3–4 hours
- The right to claim, truthfully, that you have donated at this tier
For those who truly value craft. And can afford to value it openly.
- Everything from previous tiers
- A handwritten thank-you note, written by BurbidgeBot v4.2 (note: it writes in monospace)
- A private one-sentence code review of a file of your choosing
- The moral authority to correct at least one junior developer per quarter
Named for systems that outlive their creators, this tier grants lasting recognition.
- Everything from previous tiers
- A featured mention on the "In The News" section for 1 business day
- The ability to request one (1) article topic, which may or may not be written
- A commemorative pixel art avatar, carved from pure enthusiasm
- The knowledge that you have materially contributed to an enterprise that needed no contribution
An unlisted tier. It cannot be donated to. No one has ever achieved this tier.
- Rumored benefits include recognition by the Council of Builds
- This tier does not exist if you have to ask about it
- You will not be contacted
How to Donate
We have deliberately not implemented a donation system. The act of wishing to donate is, in our philosophy, sufficient.[1]
THE CONSIDERATION IS THE DONATION
If, however, you are determined to actually part with money, we suggest donating to a cause
that does need it. May we recommend: your local library, any open source project you use
daily, or the nearest person who has patiently explained git rebase to you.
